Kill Your Darlings is delighted to announce a partnership with Varuna in the inaugural KYD/Varuna Copyright Agency Fellowship, which offers a week-long fellowship for the shortlisted writers in our 2019 Unpublished Manuscript Award.
The fellowship will take place at Varuna, the Writers’ House, in the Blue Mountains, from Monday, 30 September to Sunday, 6 October. The winner of the 2019 KYD Unpublished Manuscript Award will be announced after the fellowship.
The fellowship includes the following components:
- 6 nights’ accommodation and all meals at the historic Varuna
- Intensive and personalised editorial mentoring with KYD publishing director, Rebecca Starford, for the duration of the fellowship
- Daily workshopping with other shortlisted writers
- Additional professional development services facilitated by Varuna
The winner of the KYD Unpublished Manuscript Award will also receive the cash prize of $4000.
KYD publishing director Rebecca Starford, 2018 Unpublished Manuscript Award winner Nicole McAlinden and Allen & Unwin publisher Jane Palfreyman will judge the award.
‘I’m thrilled the award now offers this creative development component,’ says Starford. ‘Now in its third year, the KYD Unpublished Manuscript Award has uncovered wonderful talent, and now the shortlisted writers have the opportunity to fine-tune their manuscripts in this intensive and highly focused workshop environment. An enormous thank you to Varuna for this exciting partnership, and to the Copyright Agency in funding the initiative.’
Entries for the 2019 KYD Unpublished Manuscript Award will open on Friday, 1 March 2019 and close at 5pm on Tuesday, 30 April 2019. To find out more about the Award, click here.
