Vivienne Cleven is a Gomeroi/Bigambul creator who grew up in western Queensland on Mandandanji Country. She left school at thirteen to work with her father as a jillaroo on stations throughout Queensland and New South Wales. In 2000, with the manuscript for
Bitin’ Back, she won the David Unaipon Award. In 2024,
UQP added the book to its First Nations Classics series. Her second novel was
Her Sister's Eye. She also writes short stories and poetry drawing on her many life experiences.
