We want to let our readers know that KYD will no longer post any content on X (formerly Twitter). The growing negatives of this social media tool far outweigh any benefits to our organisation. We are resolved to better promote our content, literary prizes and other professional development programs elsewhere.
We have wanted to leave X for some time, given its lurch to the far right since Elon Musk acquired the business, and its promulgation of conspiracy theories, racism, sexism, misogyny, homophobia and transphobia. We’re sorry our departure from the site has not come sooner.
Given Meta’s recent decision to end its professional fact-checking program, we are also reviewing our engagement with its social media platforms. We welcome reader feedback on this matter.
Like many small magazines, social media has in the past helped us reach new audiences, as well as do important work in distributing the excellent new writing from our contributors across Australia and to other far-flung parts of the world.
Fortunately, we have other means to continue this project without relying on a toxic platform like X—via members’ support, as well as everyday readers joining our free enews subscriber list. We have also established a Bluesky account, where we will soon begin posting regularly.
Thank you for reading, and wishing you all the best for 2025.
