Kill Your Darlings is delighted to announce that Suzy Garcia, former assistant editor at Djed Press, is joining us in the newly created role of deputy editor. Suzy will be based in KYD’s Melbourne office, and will work on a range of editorial projects involving magazine content, KYD’s book reviews column and our New Australian Fiction anthology.

As a student of the Associate Degree in Professional Writing and Editing at RMIT University, Suzy interned at Ubud Writers & Readers Festival and Emerging Writers’ Festival. In 2020, she was shortlisted for the ABA Penguin Random House Australia Young Bookseller of the Year Award for her work at Mary Martin Bookshops. Suzy will begin a Master of Creative Writing, Publishing and Editing at the University of Melbourne in 2021.

‘We are so excited to welcome Suzy to the team,’ says KYD editor Alan Vaarwerk. ‘She brings strong editorial experience, passion for literary magazines and a wealth of great ideas, and we all can’t wait to start working with her.’

Suzy begins in the role in January 2021.

We’re also bidding a fond farewell to editorial assistant Justina Ashman, who first joined KYD back in 2018. Thank you for your excellent work, Justina!
