Kill Your Darlings is delighted to launch the KYD Regional Victorian Writers Program.
‘KYD was founded and is based in Melbourne, a brilliant UNESCO City of Literature’, KYD publisher Alice Cottrell says. ‘We do recognise, however, that many of the opportunities available to writers here are not so accessible to those living outside of metropolitan areas. We want to contribute to changing that. This program is designed to support regional writers throughout the state. We’re hoping to create lasting relationships with writers, readers and literary organisations in regional Victoria, and we’re very excited to discover new work by regional writers!’
From August 2019 to June 2020 KYD will publish the work of regional Victorian writers every month alongside our regular publishing program. All KYD contributors are paid. From July 2019 to 30 April 2020 we will have a dedicated portal for regional Victorian writers open at our Submittable page.
In partnership with Writers Victoria, we’ll also be bringing subsidised sessions of the KYD Writers’ Workshop to regional centres throughout the state. Sign up for our enews here and keep an eye out for announcements of these workshops throughout the year.
For those who aren’t able to attend our in-person workshops, remember our full suite of writing workshops are available online for writers everywhere!
We’re also offering regional Victorians a joint membership to KYD and Writers Victoria for the special price of $70 (a saving of $20!). You can find more information about these memberships here.
KYD and Writers Victoria define regional Victorian writers as those who live more than 50km from the Melbourne GPO.
We’d like to gratefully acknowledge the support of Creative Victoria in helping us to deliver this program.
