Kill Your Darlings’ current online editor, Alan Vaarwerk, has been promoted to editor of the magazine.
In April, KYD will cease its print edition and focus more energy and resources on the expansion of the online publishing program, which includes an increase in content and writing opportunities, as well as the introduction of other initiatives, such as new writing prizes, workshops and events around Australia.
‘Alan’s already been doing such an incredible job editing and commissioning online content for our magazine,’ says KYD publishing director and editor-in-chief, Rebecca Starford. ‘He’s passionate and extraordinarily knowledgeable about the local literary scene and has a knack of finding talented new voices. I’m really excited to see his editorial vision for KYD expand in this new role.’
‘I’m so honoured – and still a little overwhelmed – to be given such an incredible opportunity,’ says Alan. ‘Rebecca Starford, Hannah Kent and all the KYD team have shown such faith in me in the time I’ve been at the magazine. I’ve learned so much, and I’m excited to be a part of what comes next.’
