Voice In Non-Fiction with Sarah Krasnostein: A KYD Writers Workshop (Melbourne)
Join award-winning author Sarah Krasnostein for this unique writing course all about voice in creative non-fiction.
Virginia Woolf wrote, ‘If you do not tell the truth about yourself you cannot tell it about other people.’
Voice in creative non-fiction is the writer’s signature on a particular true story. In this workshop, you will explore some of the many choices involved in the process of turning our messy selves into original and credible narrators.
In addition to perspective and tone, topics include finding the source of your voice long before you sit down to write, the reporting and research process, and balancing objectivity with empathy. Through selected readings, group discussion and in-class exercises, you will challenge yourself to broaden how you think about voice in creative non-fiction, and the techniques that you can call on to best serve the stories you want to tell.
Please bring your laptop or a writing pad, and – if you wish – your special work-in-progress. This will be a day of writing, reflection and discussion, led by an experienced, award-winning writer.
