Note: Kill Your Darlings members can enrol in this course for free! To become a member, visit the KYD shop. If you are already a member, check your inbox for your special coupon code.

This course is for those who are thinking about sending pitches or works-in-progress to publications—whether KYD or any other print or online publication. Whether you’re pitching for the first time or want to get an insider’s insight into the publishing process, we’ve designed this workshop to assist you with:

  • crafting your pitches
  • developing your ideas in the writing process
  • working with editors, and
  • sharing your work when the piece is published.

Your instructors:

  • Alan Vaarwerk: Editor
  • Suzy Garcia: Deputy editor and New Australian Fiction series editor
  • Madeline Crehan: Marketing and programming manager

The course will take you 1-2 hours to complete, but can also be accomplished in short stages. This is a completely self-paced online course—you decide when you start and when you finish. We encourage you to approach this material not just as lessons to be finished once and for all, but also as a collection of resources to which you can return time and again.

Testimonials:

“Thanks for making what I thought would be a complex process into a structured and positive way to pitch.”

“I loved this KYD course. It was so accessible and extremely informative. Not only did the course break down some really common questions that new writers might have but they also shared links to other really helpful resources.”

“In the past I’ve hesitated to write pitches or develop my thoughts and essays beyond the doodle stage for fear I would be laughed out of the room. This course gave me the confidence to get in and give pitching a go.”

“As with other KYD courses I have completed, I found Pitch, Publish, Promote delivers valuable information for writers, including examples and references to relevant resources.”
