Beginning life as a print quarterly in 2010, KYD is today a vibrant and eclectic online magazine of commentary, essays, interviews, fiction and reviews. We also curate an online writing school and a series of prizes and awards, as well as offer mentorships and other high-quality editorial services to writers at all stages of their careers.

Rebecca Starford

Publishing director and CEO Rebecca Starford is the author of the novel The Imitator and the memoir Bad Behaviour, which was recently adapted by Matchbox Pictures into a Stan Original series. She is a former editor at Text Publishing and Affirm Press, and has a PhD in Creative Writing from the University of Queensland. Her new novel, The Visitor, will be published in 2025. Suzy Garcia

Kill Your Darlings editor Suzy Garcia has been at the magazine since 2021. As series editor of New Australian Fiction from 2022–2024, she published three highly acclaimed editions of the short fiction anthology. She is also a writer and a long-time bookseller. Previously, she was an editor at Djed Press and is an alumna of RMIT’s Associate Degree in Professional Writing and Editing.

Mia Abrahams

Head of Digital Strategy

Mia Abrahams

Head of digital strategy Mia Abrahams’s passion for books and storytelling has guided her career. Prior to returning to her hometown of Melbourne and joining Kill Your Darlings in 2025, she held positions in mission-driven organisations in New York City, including creative agency Blue State, criminal justice not-for-profit Youth Justice Network and women’s health startup Thinx.

Eliza Callil

Program and Administrative Assistant

Eliza Callil

Eliza Callil is an arts worker, editor and bookseller living and working on Wurundjeri land. She holds a Graduate Diploma of Writing and Publishing from RMIT University and a Bachelor of Arts (Creative Writing) from University of Melbourne. She has been an editorial intern at Meanjin and Bowen Street Press, and has produced events with the Emerging Writers’ Festival and Theatre Works.

Sohani Goonetillake

Content Creator

Sohani Goonetillake

Sohani Goonetillake moonlights as a national social media producer for the ABC. She was previously a multimedia producer at youth media company Shameless Media, where she nurtured an engaged Shameless Book Club community. Career highlights include interviewing bestselling authors such as RF Kuang and Trent Dalton, and bringing in-person book club events to life.
