Short Fiction with A.S. Patrić

10am–4pm, Saturday 13 April

Though short stories can be the beginning point in a writer’s life, the short form is often the culmination of a career in literature too. Short stories afford us a unique perspective into the foundational elements of literary technique, but they can also provide a better understanding of how our developing craft evolves into art. Join Miles Franklin Award-winner A.S. Patrić (Black Rock, White City) in this unique writing course all about the fundamental principles of storytelling and the ever-evolving art of narrative expression.

Science Fiction, Fantastical, Supernatural with Angela Meyer

10am–4pm, Saturday 27 April

Join acclaimed novelist and publisher Angela Meyer (A Superior Spectre) for a day of all things speculative fiction. This course encourages students to figure out what they would like to speculate on, and suggests avenues and techniques for exploring these ideas. You’ll study world-building, creating genuine characters, layering in themes, and generating compelling plots free of holes – all with an experienced writer and publisher.

Voice In Non-Fiction with Sarah Krasnostein

10:30am–4pm, Saturday 25 May

Voice in creative non-fiction is the writer’s signature on a particular true story. In this workshop, you will explore some of the many choices involved in the process of turning our messy selves into original and credible narrators. Join award-winning author Sarah Krasnostein (The Trauma Cleaner) for this unique writing course all about voice in creative non-fiction, and the techniques that you can call on to best serve the stories you want to tell.
