So You Want to Write with Rebecca Starford

Our popular motivational course is back in the new year! This workshop is designed to instil confidence in you and your writing, and to give you a renewed understanding of what is required to begin, continue or complete a project. You’ll come away with strategies to manage tendencies towards procrastination and self-doubt, and suggestions to assist and encourage creativity. What better way to kick off your 2019 writing resolution?

Write What Makes You Blush with Lee Kofman

Shame is a reliable barometer to detect those urgent stories we need to tell. But how do we find the right language to write about what makes us blush? This workshop aims to help you find the courage to write about what matters to you and connect to urgent themes and critical thinking around the ethics of memoir. It also offers strategies to write with distance and self-reflection about difficult subject matter.

Completing a first draft is only the beginning of a journey to publication. What follows is the crucial process of redrafting your manuscript. And then where do you send your work and to whom? This workshop, taught by editor and KYD publishing director Rebecca Starford, is designed to open doors and shine lights on everything you need to know about preparing your work for publication, along with the crucial process of getting it into the hands of publishers and agents.

Science Fiction, Fantastical, Supernatural with Angela Meyer

10am–4pm, Saturday 27 April, Kathleen Syme Community Library, Carlton

Join acclaimed novelist of the recent A Superior Spectre for a day of all things speculative fiction. This course encourages students to figure out what they would like to speculate on, ​and suggests avenues and techniques for exploring these ideas. You’ll study world-building, creating genuine characters, layering in themes, and generating compelling plots free of holes – all with an experienced writer and publisher.
