Without our wonderful KYD members, we cannot continue publishing great Australian writing. That’s why we’ve got another exclusive members-only giveaway offer to say thanks for your support.
We’ve teamed up with the people behind the Ballarat International Foto Biennale to give away some double passes to David LaChapelle’s first solo exhibition in Australia.
As the proud centrepiece of the 2017 program, the exhibition will showcase over 60 of LaChapelle’s works spanning the last three decades. Starting his career in the 1980s, LaChapelle is known worldwide for his unique, hyper-realistic aesthetic. His images have graced the covers of Italian Vogue, French Vogue, Vanity Fair, GQ and Rolling Stone and he has photographed some of the most recognisable faces on the planet, from Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston to Angelina Jolie and Hillary Clinton.
La Chapelle’s work is a critique of 20th Century pop culture, featuring beautifully strong and vibrant images. He uses his photographic works as a mirror to the public about wide spread consumerism and its association with idols.
“Mr. LaChapelle is certain to influence the work of a new generation of photographers… Of all the photographers inventing surreal images, it is Mr. LaChapelle who has the potential to be the genre’s Magritte”
– Richard Avedon,
The New York Times with Amy M. Spindler
