Today, the first Wednesday of the month, is Pitch, Bitch day. Pitch, Bitch is an exhortation and a resource aimed at closing the “confidence gap” and the gender disparity in pitching and getting published. Women writers are encouraged to use the day to work on a pitch, research a pitch, or send a pitch.

Print pitches and submissions:
During the month of September, Kill Your Darlings are open to submissions of original writing for our print edition. We accept pitches at all times. Please read our submissions guidelines carefully before submitting. We only accept print submissions attached as a Word document and emailed to [email protected].roald-325x500

Online pitches and submissions:
In honour of Pitch, Bitch, we have also opened pitches and submissions (nonfiction only) to our blog, Killings. Please send pitches for Killings to our Online Editor, Veronica Sullivan, at [email protected]. Killings pieces are generally between 800-1000 words. We recommend you read through some recent content to get a feel for our house style and general areas of interest.

A few topics we are particularly interested in covering at the moment:

  • Literary censorship vs. use of sexual imagery to sell books, in light of recent controversies surrounding Roald Dahl’s works (Penguin’s ‘adult’ cover of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory; the removal of Revolting Rhymes from sale in Aldi supermarkets). — Please note this pitch has now been filled.
  • The racial politics and/or feminist significance of Nicki Minaj (writers of colour are especially welcomed to pitch on this topic). — Please note this pitch has now been filled.

Good luck, and get pitching!
