After a month of glorious YA discussion, brilliant championing posts, fun radio spots and nostalgic revisiting of favourites, we have tallied the votes and now have your KYD YA Championship winners!
We’ve been overwhelmed by the amazing response to KYDYAC and in the end it was an incredibly close call, as all eleven titles are champions in their own right.
But without further ado, top three winners of the KYD YA Championship, your favourite local YA book from the last 30 years are:
*DRUM ROLL!*
In third place: Obernewtyn by Isobelle Carmody
Your runner up: Looking for Alibrandi by Melina Marchetta
And the winner is: Tomorrow When The War Began by John Marsden
Congratulations to these worthy contenders may be better framed as thanks, for engendering a love of reading in many young bookworms.
And now to the winner of the KYD YA Championship People’s Choice Award. This was a more evenly placed race…
…and all the glory of the KYDYAC People’s Choice crown goes to the wonderful Taronga by Victor Kelleher.
A notable mention must go to John Marsden’s Checkers and Melina Marchetta’s On The Jellicoe Road, the reigning king and queen of Australian YA fiction again proving their might with the masses.
Huge congratulations to the winners and nominated titles, and a massive thank you to all of our wonderful contributors, as well as you, our readers, who made it all happen. Thanks also to our fabulous sponsors for providing such amazing prize packs – the winners have now been notified.
